Laura has been a trained Mat Pilates Instructor, teaching in the Pittsburgh region, for over 20 years. She has taught in gyms, private and group lessons, as well as a local high school. She has always been passionate about fitness and nutrition. Laura was first introduced to Pilates while in Chiropractic school. She has a doctorate in Chiropractic, Bachelor of Science in Nutrition, and attended graduate school for Clinical Nutrition.
Laura understands that exercise does not need to be painful, or cause stress on the joints. Her classes are inclusive to all ability levels, because she believes that Pilates should be for everyone. She gives plenty of modifications, so that those who may have injuries can still be included. Pilates focuses on core strength, a strong foundation, and body control.
Throughout her career, Laura has learned that exercise should include cross-training, meaning that if you are a runner, cyclist, swimmer, etc. you should still include different exercises into your routine. This is important because it allows your body to use all muscle groups, and not just the ones you focus on during specific sports. You should always challenge your body in new and different ways, as well as cross-train to reduce your risk of overuse injuries.
Pilates can also be a tool to help reach your optimal fitness level. Laura has instructed wrestlers, jiu jitsu practitioners, and MMA fighters, just to name a few. Many of these sports highly benefit from the practice of Pilates, because it allows the body to open up, stretch, strengthen and lengthen through the muscles. Our Pilates classes are for men, woman, pregnant women and children, (ages 10+). If you are interested in trying a class, we offer a walk-in price of $15.00/class.
